Centro de Investigación de Economía y Sociedad (CIES)

The Centro de Investigación de Economía y Sociedad (CIES) was constituted in April 1992 as a result of the accumulated experience since the early 80s by a group of experts in the field of economics and society. It is a part of the Parc Cientìfic de Barcelona as a I+D+i center and it is related to the Universidad de Barcelona, for the development of joint research activities and training programs. CIES is a multidisciplinary research and training center of reference in the area of CSR and the Social Economy. Its objective is to study the combination between economic efficacy and social interests, such as the relation between social economy, public administration and the conventional private sector.

Since its creation, through information and investigation labour, CIES has insisted in sensitizing experts and public administration, teachers and organization managers, professionals from mercantile context of social economy.

In consequence, CIES has become a reliable resources centre which has managed to join the most active agents in the study and promotion of social economy. CIES achieves its objective through collecting, analysing and spreading sector information, stimulating and helping innovatory projects, making platforms and nets.

Its teaching experience includes two Masters - Master in Social Economy and Management of Non-profit Institutions (on-line) and Master in Social Corporative Responsibility / Accounting and Social Audit (on-line). Associated partner of the United Nations’ Pacto Mundial/Global Compact, and of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Europe.

CIES is one of the founding members of EMES and has participated in the PERSE and Childcare projects.
