Södertörns Högskola - Entrepreneurship and Small Business Unit

Södertörns Högskola, the newly established Baltic Sea University in the south of Stockholm, was called into being by act of the Swedish Parliament in 1995. Students enrolment started in 1996. Södertörns now has about 10000 students and over 500 teachers and researchers in the social sciences, humanities and natural sciences. Particular emphasis is placed on close links between research and education, multi-disciplinary approaches.

Besides mainstream disciplinary studies, Södertörns Högskola provides several innovative multidisciplinary social science and humanities programs in the social sciences, such as the European Program, the Program on Politics, Economy and Organization and the Entrepreneur Program. The entrepreneurship research program, headed by Prof. Yohanan Stryjan, aims at exploring the theory and practice of entrepreneurship and of organising for innovation, and the organisational, structural, technological and cultural infrastructures that are supportive of innovative organizing.

The study of social entrepreneurship and of the interplay between social enterprises and local government is perceived as an important component of the problem field, and is pursued by two of the program's six constituent projects. In its three years of operation, the program has built up an extensive network of international research contacts.

Södertörns Högskola is one of the founding members of EMES and has participated in the EMES and PERSE projects.
